Jesus christ, this whole answer is a train wreck… I’ll properly answer this in a minute. Let me type out a response
First off butches don’t try to present as men, butches are 10 times more attractive in every way possible. Butches dont even try to look like men, that’s just a stylistic choice and its deeper than the clothes you wear. The term’s gained popularity throughout the 1940s, it has such a rich history and men have nothing to do with it. If you google oxford dictionary will “butch” means a “lesbian of masculine appearance or behavior.” this is the first answer that pops up. I really disagree, there’s so much more to it than that. Like I said earlier, it was a term that surfaced in the 1940s. Before “butch” became a term commonly used, there were other terms in the 1920s that described "masculinity” (I’m weird calling it masculinity because you’ll say “well men are masculine so they are!!”) gay women used terms such as “bull dagger” or “bull dyke”. Butches (and femmes) faced criticism from other lesbians who felt that they replicated heterosexual relationships (much like you’re doing right now) The first lesbian organization, the Daughters of Bilitis (pdf file), formed in 1955 and pressured butches to appear more feminine which just enforced gender stereotypes which to me seems like a weird thing to do if you’re a feminist but go off I guess. In 1969, some butch lesbians participated in the Stonewall Riots and rebelled! In the 1970s, being butch or identifying as such was “politically incorrect” by most feminists. Butch and femme came back in the 1980s!! Later, in 1993, Leslie Feinberg published Stone Butch Blues, about a working-class butch lesbian who struggles with butch and trans identity and faces homophobic violence! (Most people on tumblr already know about this though, here’s the free pdf) The 2000s were good for butch visibility. Ellen DeGeneres debuted her talk show after coming out on her sitcom less than a decade before (which she worked hard for as she couldn’t hold down many shows after that, if I remember correctly of course).
Butch women break gender stereotypes and I think that’s why everyone thinks they’re trying to “look like men” and lots of people ask when they are going to transition. I think that scares most people. They think women HAVE to look wear dresses, heels and traditionally feminine clothes or they’re just “trying to be men”. I found button ups and mens shoes MUCH more comfortable than women’s because women’s clothes were designed to make them look sexy, not to be practical. I wouldn’t call that being like a man at all
As for that bs about there not being violence against gay people here’s a list of violence due to homophobia, some are more recent than others. Single we are talking about lesbians specifically I’ll add a few down below (they also take place in america. I wanted to use a place that is more accepting to show you that there is homophobia even in places like america
- In March, 1979, an assault on several women in a San Francisco lesbian bar by off-duty police officers drew national attention to the strained relationship between police and LGBT San Franciscans at that time. One woman was hospitalized for ten days with skull injuries
- Sakia Gunn, a 15-year-old lesbian, was murdered on May 11, 2003, in Newark, New Jersey. While waiting for a bus, Gunn and her friends were propositioned by two men. When the girls rejected their advances, declaring themselves to be lesbians, the men attacked them. One of the men, Richard McCullough, fatally stabbed Gunn. In exchange for his pleading guilty to several lesser crimes including aggravated manslaughter, prosecutors dropped murder charges against McCullough, who was sentenced to 20 years.
- Rebecca Wight was killed on May 13, 1988, when she and her partner, Claudia Brenner, were shot by Stephen Roy Carr while hiking and camping along the Appalachian Trail. Carr later claimed that he became enraged by the couple’s lesbianism when he saw them having sex
- The Otherside Lounge, a lesbian nightclub in Atlanta, was bombed by Eric Robert Rudolph, the “Olympic Park Bomber,” on February 21, 1997; five bar patrons were injured. In a statement released after he was sentenced to five consecutive life terms for his several bombings, Rudolph called homosexuality an “aberrant lifestyle”
And, yes, homosexuality is becoming more accepted in places like america but not in 3rd world countries where it’s illegal. Also, there are less gays than you think. The studies you are looking at are over exaggerated
Guys, send asks and tell me about your lives! I want to hear from you
Don’t confuse self love with self indulgence. Take responsibility for your own actions. Learn from them, and let it help you to become a better person
Love, Simon is problematic because Simon really spent a crap ton of money to ride the ferris wheel multiple times when he could have just waited near the ride and save money to buy his boyfriend fair food.
Listen Simon is the exact definition of a disaster gay he doesn’t know what he’s doing
He just had to be dramatic
